The Academy of Pediatrics recommends a first dental visit by age 1! This visit may be the most important one for you and you child. During this visit, I will:
Ideally a child should have a dental check-up and cleaning twice a year. During these regular visits, I will:
This simple, non-invasive procedure helps to prevent cavities from forming in the grooves of molars. A protective coating is "painted and glued" into the grooves and crevices of back teeth.
Amalgam (silver) or Composite (white) fillings can be done depending on your preference. If a cavity is too large to fixed with a filling, a crown may be the best option for the longevity of the tooth. Silver crowns or “hats” are made with stainless steel and provide a high level of protection when cavities or big or when the risk of cavities are very high.
SDF is a liquid used to stop dental decay from progressing. In some cases, where cavities were historically treated with fillings or crowns, SDF can be used in a non-invasive manner to arrest dental decay. It can also relieve sensitivity. SDF is "painted" on to the cavity with a small brush or flossed in between the teeth if the cavity is in between the teeth. While this is a very conservative way of treating a cavity, it does stain the cavity black (see photos in the article below). For teeth in the back, this is rarely a concern. For children that are not be able to tolerate treatment awake or for those who require a lot of treatment, having dentistry performed asleep may be the best option. I offer this service at the Centre Dentaire Patrick Canonne with a specially trained pediatric anesthesiologist who will monitor your child throughout the procedure. Children are often feeling well by dinner time and can most often resume regular activities the following day.
Dr. Aubri can evaluate your child’s need for orthodontic treatment. She can provide some early treatment options or refer you to one of many orthodontists she has worked closely with over her career.
